Philips Indoor Table Grill

Sure it is a very nice, clean design. But after being an industrial designer for houseware products for more than 6 years, I am not just looking how nice the design is at the first glimpse. I am thinking about why Philips or other companies can have this product launched with same kind features but better design, and our company cannot. It is because our Industrial Designers arenot as good as they are? Let me tell you. I had a similar design like this back to 2007 for a griddle, but easily this concept got killed while I presented it, the feet integrated with handle design on both side was not safe enough for the user, it would get too hot if the user tried to put his/her hands in. The grease tray is too close the body, it will get hot and the user will burn his/her hand if he/she tried to pull it out...." Sure, there are still more many reasons why it cannot be done the way Philips does. But my point is a good product can come to marketing with a great design, it needs a team work - great maketing product manager with great management skill, great engineers with "Yes, we can" attitude, industrial desginer with great insight of problem solving and creative skills, and product branding...so on. Anyway, I am glad to see such nice design from Philips, but meanwhile I feel sad for my company why we cannot... As an industrial designer, it keep me thinking how I can help to push for great design of our products.
